Striped flannel, the English suit par excellence

A 340 g flannel, a midnight blue stripe and our most English cut: this winter’s Kensington, and how we wear it.

Striped flannel is the look of the English suit par excellence. For the Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, we chose it in grey, with a midnight blue stripe, in our most English cut.

A 340 g flannel

The cloth is a virgin wool flannel, woven by Vitale Barberis Canonico in the Biella region. Soft and slightly downy, it has a beautiful drape. At 340 g, it makes a suit for autumn and winter.

A stripe that reveals itself up close

Set on grey, the midnight blue stripe stays understated and reveals itself up close. That is what allows you to wear this suit at the office as well as to dinner.

The English cut

A single-breasted, fitted cut, with a two-button jacket. The pockets are slanted, with a small ticket pocket, the cuffs have working buttonholes, and topstitching picks out the lapels and pockets. The trousers have a single pleat, side adjusters and a button fly, as English tradition requires. Our model is 1.86 m tall, weighs 77 kg and wears a size 50.

The waistcoat, for the three-piece

The six-button single-breasted waistcoat is cut from the same cloth. Wear it with the suit, or on its own. We often recommend going up a size.

How we wear it

In our photographs, it is worn with a lilac striped cotton poplin shirt, a soft colour that goes with grey, and a midnight blue and purple silk tie with small white polka dots. We add our George Oxfords in black calf and, when it is cold, the Vittorio in charcoal whipcord with a velvet collar, the dressiest of our single-breasted coats.

The same look, in a plain cloth

If you prefer a suit without a stripe, our Kensington comes in a flannel of the same weight, from the same mill, in navy and in deep grey.
