What to wear as a best man

Elegant without stealing the limelight: our guide for the best man, from the suit to the details.

The best man is in every photograph, beside the groom. He must look impeccable without ever taking his place. A few simple guidelines make it hard to go wrong.

Ask the groom first

Before choosing, ask him two questions: what will he be wearing, and is there a colour to follow or to avoid? If he is in a morning coat, his best men often are too. If he is wearing a suit, you have more freedom.

Stay a shade below

Avoid the groom’s exact colour, unless he asks you to. If he is wearing navy, a grey works very well. If he is in grey, navy remains an excellent choice.

The safest suit

Navy and grey are never wrong. A Prince of Wales check adds a pattern without drawing the eye: our Kensington in charcoal and sky blue Prince of Wales check, in 310 g wool, can be worn all year round, and our deep grey and sky blue Prince of Wales check, in Super 130’s wool, suits weddings on sunny days.

For a less formal summer wedding

If the groom leaves the choice to you, a double-breasted blazer and pale trousers make a very fitting daytime outfit. Our Naples in navy honeycomb goes as well with white trousers as with grey.

The details count

A sober tie, a white pocket square, shoes polished the night before. And if the day is long, the waistcoat lets you take off your jacket at dinner and still look dressed.

A suit is decided at the fitting. Our three Paris shops welcome you from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm.
